Thanks for picking up your very own Nerdbox. Nerdbox is meant to be simple, and painless, but there are a few things I thought you should know before you get started.
Nerdbox is as simple to setup as possible. First, plug in your HDMI cable. Second, plug in the usb controllers you are using. If you are using included controllers, these should have been configured for you. If you are using your own controllers, configuring them is simple. Once the unit is powered up, follow this guide to set them up yourself. Third, connect the power, and watch it start!
Nerdbox can be a little intimidating to use at first, because of the total amount of games. A lot of people find the search function on the web site useful to help find a specific game they want to play. Use the directional pad on your controller to choose a system with the A button. Then use Up and Down to choose the game you would like. A few systems have over 700 games. This can be overwhelming, but if you hit the select button while looking at a games list, you can jump to a specific letter. The B button will bring you back to the list of consoles, and the L or R shoulder buttons will jump up or down the list a page at a time.
Once you've found a game you'd like to play, select it, then press A. It will start up, and then behave exactly like the original version! If you want to quit a game, press Start and Select at the same time. This will return you to the games list for the console. There is a full list of hot keys at the end of this document.
To turn off Nerdbox, get back to the games menu, and press the start button to bring up the menu. Then choose Quit, Shutdown System. Nerdbox is a little computer, so it is best to shut it down this way. There is also no power button, so, once shutdown is complete, simply unplug it. Nerdbox's average power consumption is minimal, so most people simply leave it on!
If anything goes wrong with your Nerdbox, I'm happy to help. I can help figure out what is wrong, and then fix it. If you have usage questions,I'm also happy to help with those, however, a quick question on the facebook group may get you a faster reply. Also, it makes it easier for other people who may have the same problem to find help. The facebook group is also a good place to hear about any news. Any problems you may encounter, send an email to nerdboxbrad@gmail.com, and I will help you out.
There are some system related functions, such as quitting games, and resetting the console that require you to use key combinations on your gamepad. Here is a list of those, and a brief description.
Exit game - Select + Start
This combination will bring you back to the
Nerdbox main menu to choose a new game. This is how to turn off a game.
Reset game - Select + B
This combination will reset the game. This is
like hitting the reset button on the original console.
Save state - Select + Right Shoulder

This combination will load the
previously saved game state, allowing you to come back to this exact moment in the
game.

slot the save states are being saved to. Use it to manage your save states.
